  • Cyclops Jawa

The squirrels at the Disney Parks are some of the most brazen little creatures I’ve ever witnessed.  We watched one go from stroller to stroller and just ransack everyones left overs and bags.  The day before, we were in Hollywood Studios at the Star Wars Launch Bay, where we met a couple of Jawas.  Apparently they will trade little trinkets with you if you ask them to, but for some reason they refused my offer and traded with my wife instead.  I tried a few more times to trade things with them but nope they weren’t into it.  So that’s why I made this painting of sweet squirrel vengeance!  Maybe now they will trade something for their eye back!

The original painting is made with watercolor and ink on 140 lb. cold press paper.  It measures 5.5″x8.5″ and is available either framed or unframed.  The framed original comes in a black 8″x10″ frame and is floated over a matte board with photo corners.  The unframed original comes in a clear protective sleeve with a stiff backing.

  • Dole Whip for Brains

One of the highlights of visiting any Disney Park is eating all the things!! I really wish they would start serving Dole Whips in skull bowls.  This skull can’t even resist the sweet soft serve spilling out of his cranium.

Ducks, ducks, and more ducks!  At every Disney park you go to, you see the happiest ducks in the world!  This piece shows a mother duck taking her ducklings around the World Showcase at EPCOT.  She is wearing a first visit pin because she has never left.   Each duck has a different hat that represents one of the eleven countries in the park.  See if you can identify them all!

  • EPCOT Aztec

My favorite country in the World Showcase at EPCOT is also the place my family is from, Mexico.  If Aztecs invented Churros this guy sure wouldn’t have those abs.  This fierce warrior is shown in Mexican style Mickey ears and is trying to find his way around the big wide world of EPCOT.

  • Head Shot

“Head Shot” is my personal favorite of this series.  It was inspired by the Pirate theming around Pirates of the Caribbean in Adventureland.  A skeleton pirate fires his own head through a cannon as a last resort in hopes of winning a battle.  I like to think that he is going to bite and clamp onto whatever or whoever he hits.

  • Leaky Tiki

“Leaky Tiki” is a piece of tiki pirate art that depicts a rum running pirate and his trusty parrot.  His hard efforts to distribute his tasty rum have been foiled by the tiniest of foes, that cork pulling crab! The island off in the distance is one of his many stash spots, and his loyal parrot companion holds the map to the rest of his secret rum reservoirs.

This piece was painted with acrylic and the background was made to look like a treasure map.  The original painting is on an oval cut piece of birch and measures 20″x14″.  It comes in a gilded ornate frame that you would expect to see in the Captain's Cabin on a swashbuckling Pirate Ship!

  • Muerte en Hawaii

    ,

“Muerte en Hawaii” is original day of the dead art from Hawaii.  Death is shown here on vacation in an aloha shirt playing an ukulele on a sunlit beach.  I like to think that he is playing that song from Ziggy Marley, “Beach in Hawaii”, while the waves keep the rhythm in the background.  It’s a perfect picture of the island lifestyle and shows how the only way to live life is in the moment.

Although the original painting has SOLD there are still many print options available.

  • Out of Reach

“Out of Reach” was inspired by Main Street at the Magic Kingdom.  It shows a skeleton who lost his arm to the mighty strength of Mickey balloons.  The worst part is that his Magic Band is on that arm and he had a Fast Pass scheduled for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Fligt, and Space Mountain!  Looks like it’s Stitches Great escape for this skelly.

  • Outside the Tiki Room

This little Watercolor was inspired by the Magic Kingdom but more specifically Adventrueland. Adventureland is by far one of my favorite parts of any park!  This tiki skeleton character is a combination of the tiki room mixed with a little Pirates of the Caribbean.  He is eating a melting Mickey ice cream while a parrot from the tiki room joins in!

  • Rafiki Tiki

Rafiki is one of my favorite characters from the Lion King and he is so cool that he even has a whole section at Animal Kingdom devoted to him, “Rafiki’s Planet Watch”.  I tried to make him a little darker of a character by replacing his gourds on his staff with skulls and gave him a more angular design reminiscent of a tiki carving.

  • Portrait of an ‘Alala

    ,

The Hawaiian crow or ‘Alalā is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands and is considered by natives to be a family god or ‘aumakua.  Unfortunately it is extinct in the wild and there are only about 150 left in captivity!  However thanks to the efforts of organizations like the Keauhou Bird Conservation these Hawaiian Crows have had a safe haven and will be reintroduced into their natural habitat on the Big Island of Hawaii in September 2016!

This piece measures 5×7 inches and was painted with acrylic and enamel on a canvas panel and comes in a rustic wood frame. The original work can also be purchased at the Volcano Art Center in Hawaii’s Volcano National Park.

  • Pu’uhonua O Honaunau

    ,

I painted this tiki gods piece as a submission into the Maui Arts and Cultural Center Hawaii National Parks Centennial 2016.  The site of Pu’uhonua O Hanaunau is a unique blend of natural and cultural resources where the idyllic Hawaiian landscape is made sacred by human influence.  The power of the site is emphasized in the painting through bold line work and exaggerated colors that highlight the significance of this historic place.  The frame is constructed to enhance the painting in the same way that the structural elements of Pu’uhonua O Hanaunau enhance the site.

The original paining is painted with acrylic and enamel on birch panel and measures 48″x20″.  The frame is custom built from black walnut and is enhanced with rope details bringing the total size to 34″x61″.

  • Honu Ofrenda

    , , ,

This painting depicts a Honu with an ofrenda on it’s back. The ofrenda is an offering in Mexican culture and often includes food, flowers, and candles.  The ofrenda is very common in the Day of the Dead celebration and is used to invite your departed loved ones back for a night of earthly delights.  I chose to show the Honu with a Hawaiian style ofrenda that includes a tea leaf offering and native Hawaiian flowers.  Since the honu is endangered it carries the ofrenda for it’s lost brethren.

This piece was painted with acrylic and enamel on birch panel and measures 16″x20″.  It comes in a custom wood frame that has been painted with a teal antique finish bringing the total size to 19.5″x24.5″.

  • Going for Broke

Going for Broke is a painting made based on my experiences skateboarding.  I chose to represent a skeleton skateboarding because it amplifies the vulnerability of our bodies. When I was fifteen I wrecked my left arm trying to do a noseslide and ended up having surgery where doctors installed screws into my bones to hold my elbow together.  Since skateboarding is one of the earthly pleasures I would be enjoying in the afterlife this piece honors the idea of the Day of the Dead by depicting not just any skeleton skateboarding but my skeleton skateboarding.  After my first broken arm I have continued to skateboard and have broken a total of nine bones. I feel this piece is very personal to who I am and sums up the passion to do what you love.
